The forty eight include twenty five Makerere University students who were arrested on Thursday for protesting against the planned lifting of presidential age limits.
The students had joined hundreds of people around the country who are demonstrating against the amendment that paves way for Museveni to stand for another term in 2021 yet he will be over the stipulated age.
Police and the military have deployed heavily on the streets of Kampala.
In a related development, the police are also detained musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine. He is among those opposed to the lifting of presidential age limit.
