The public in Uganda has been outraged by the manner in which the police arrested leading opposition politicians.
The Uganda police on Saturday arrested opposition politicians who include Dr. Kiiza Besigye the Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate.
Photos of the police arresting the leaders were shown on local television prompting angry reactions from members of the public.
People from across the political divide have been angered by the pictures of the police stripping one of the women before arresting her.
Other Presidential candidates have also joined in to vent their anger at the police over what they describe as brutality.
Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi who is contesting on The Democratic Alliance ticket issued a statement on Monday condemning the police.
“I condemn the willful police brutality meted out against the FDC Presidential aspirant Dr. Kizza Besigye and his colleagues of FDC this past Saturday on their way to a public meeting in Rukungiri. There is no excuse whatsoever for this police violence.
We call on Government to rein in the state police who have been brutalising the innocent public. Additionally, the shameful treatment of women by the police that same day is indefensible and should never happen again”.
The police however claimed the lady stripped herself to protest arrest.
