Long Serving Ugandan President to Host Another Pope

President Yoweri Museveni is set to host the second Pope to visit Uganda in his 30-year rule. Pope Francis is set to visit Uganda on the 27th November 2015. He will visit Uganda from November 27-29. Pope Francis will be in Uganda to mark the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s canonization of 22 Catholic martyrs-converts to Christianity who were executed in the 19th century. He will be the second Pope for President Museveni to host during his reign. President Museveni hosted late Pope John Paul II in 1993. Below is the program.

The police in Uganda have blocked a group of women from carrying out a demonstration. The women were intending to demonstrate against the police for stripping naked an official of the Forum for Democratic Change. The police over the weekend caused uproar over the manner in which they arrested a lady. Video recording show the police struggling to undress Zaina Fatuma during the arrest of FDC officials who were enroute to western Uganda to launch a party activity. The public in Uganda has been outraged by the manner in which the police arrested leading opposition politicians. The Uganda police on Saturday arrested opposition politicians who include Dr. Kiiza Besigye the Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate. Photos of the police arresting the leaders were shown on local television prompting angry reactions from members of the public. People from across the political divide have been angered by the pictures of the police stripping one of the women before arresting her. South Africa retains ranking in 2015 Ibrahim Index of African Governance

South Africa has retained its position in the 2015 Ibrahim Index on Africa Governance. In the 2015 Index, South Africa has retained its rank of 4 of 54 countries assessed in the Index. This follows South Africa’s improved performance in the 2015/16 World Economic Forum’s annual Global Competitiveness Index which saw South Africa rise seven places from 56 to 49 of 140 countries. The Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) measures the quality of governance in 54 African countries on an annual basis by looking at four areas: Safety and Rule of Law, Participation and Human Rights, Sustainable Economic Opportunity and Human Development. Ugandan Minister Quits Ruling Party

A Ugandan Minister has quit the ruling National Resistance party. Aidah Nantaba the state Minister for Lands quit the party over what she described as “flawed electoral process” in the primaries. The National Resistance party confirmed today that it has formerly accepted the resignation of Aidah Nantaba from all NRM party activities. The NRM party issued a statement today saying that the leadership accepted her “request” to withdraw from all NRM activities. CCM cadres are reported to have stopped campaigning for Dr. John Magufuli the party’s presidential candidate in Monduli constituency a home to his rival Edward Lowassa. The Citizen reports in its online edition that the cadres are only supporting Namalok Sokoine the CCM parliamentary candidate. Ccm was launching its campaigns from Nanja village the birthplace for Chadema’s candidate Julius kalanga.
