The people of Ghana are waiting and watching who is going to be declared the next president in the just ended general elections on this Wednesday 7th December 2016. In total, seven (7 ) candidates contested for the presidency. However out of these seven (7) candidates, with the exception of the incumbent John Dramani Mahama of the NDC, Five (5) of the candidates who contested for the presidency as of yesterday 08/12/2016 have conceded defeat and congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo of the New Patriotic Party.  Based on the results that the contested political parties have received from their own representatives at the national coalition centre at the electoral commission’s headquarters in Accra Ghana, the trend is obvious and Dr Papa Kwesi Ndoum of PPP who has at the moment managed to garner just over 1% of the valid votes cast was the first to concede.  Others are just in the zero (0%) in percentage and have all conceded defeat.

As of yesterday 08/12/2016 at 17:00, the candidate for New Patriotic Party (NPP),the  biggest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) whose main campaign message was to create more jobs and fight corruption, is in a commanding lead after more than half of the valid votes were counted. The main opposition party (NPP) has  won 170 seats in parliament against 275 seats in parliament.   This indicates that, the party has won an overwhelming majority in parliament as well as the presidency with a handsome margin of more than 1 million votes.

The EU observer commission, however described the election as; ‘Free, fair and transparent ’. Also, the EU observer commissioners stated that the incumbent party is using incumbent advantage to suit their whims and caprices. He assured the people of Ghana that the figures cannot be massaged illegally. The Leaders of the incumbent party are deceiving their supporters to wear white to signify victory. In the light of this, they are in the street of Accra Jubilating. What a deception!

As we still await the official declaration by the electoral commissioner, several individuals on social media are calling the President to concede defeat. The commissioner however has delayed the declaration, as she promised earlier on that she will officially declare the results by 72hours after the close of elections on Wednesday 07/12/2016 at 17:00. Several Supporters of the incumbent party have said that, they are still in the race and they are winning as per the figures they themselves have collated. They however said that they will not reveal such results to anyone.  The formal UN secretary General has stated that “ I call on the losers to concede as quickly as possible to diffuse tension’. There is a clear trend of who is winning and who is losing.

However, electoral commissioner has stated that the delay is due to the fact that she wants to make sure everything is accurately done, before she officially declare the results. She asserted that there were few challenges that the commission encountered during  the electronic transmission of the results. However the incumbent national Democratic Party (NDC) leader  HE John Dramani Mahama has said that He and his party will accept the results whether positive or negative.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has contested the presidency for his third time now. This is however classed as 3rd time lucky. For this time, all the media houses in Ghana including Adom TV and myjoy online has projected Nana Addo Addo Dankwa to win the election as of today 09/12/2016 at 7am based on the provisional results they have received. As at 17:30 today, the certified results from 267 out of 275 constituency indicates that Nana Addo Dankwa Akkuffo Addo who is the main opposition leader, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is in a commanding lead with 53.35% of the valid votes cast against  44.85% of incumbent John Dramani Mahama of National Democratic Congress(NDC). The rules of the game is one has to attain (50% plus 1 vote) to win the contest. At exactly 20:00 hours, the incumbent John Dramani Mahama conceded defeat and congratulated Nana Addo.
