Uganda Speaks Over None Payment of Soldiers in Somalia

Kampala-Uganda says it’s not to blame over delays in payment of troops serving under African Mission in Somalia-AMISOM. The Ugandan troops who are deployed to fight Alshabab militias have spent more than five months without pay. The Army and Ministry of  Defense Spokesperson, Lt. Col Paddy Ankunda confirmed to The Continent Observer in an email to the The Continent Observer esplained that Uganda is not responsible for the delay in the payment of salaries for the troops. “Whereas it is true that the soldiers had not received their five month AMISOM allowances, it is as a result of procedural impediment beyond the control of UPDF and Uganda as a whole”.Lt. Uganda is mourning the death of three of its soldiers killed by Alshabaab militants during an attack on the Somali parliament. Alshabab militants on Saturday attacked the Somali parliament killing three members of the Ugandan continent of AMISOM. “We send back our fallen comrades with grief and sorrow but in their bravery and resolute to liberate Somalis we shall pick courage and soldier on to liberate the African people and for the cause of Pan Africanism, fare thee well comrades” reads a statement issued by Ugandan Contingent Spokesperson Major Deo Akiiki. Al-Shabab   Alshabaab militias have attacked Somali parliament killing two soldiers from African Union Mission in Somalia-AMISOM and several civilians. A Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) went off at the entrance to the Somali Parliament and shortly al Shabaab fighters also stormed the building. Mogadishu 21st April 2014 – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif strongly condemns the assassination of Somali Member of Parliament Isaak Mohamed Rino in Mogadishu today. Ethiopia Joins AMISOM Force

  Mogadishu-The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has today formally welcomed Ethiopian National Defense Forces into the peacekeeping mission. The AMISOM Force commander Lt. Gen. Silas Ntigurirwa received the forces at a ceremony held in Baidoa, in the Bay region, South Central Somalia. This is in effect of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2124-pasted last year that provided for increased capacity of the AMISOM force strength from 17, 731 to 22,126 uniformed personnel.  The Ethiopian troops take over the Bay region from the Ugandan and Burundian troops, permitting the latter to deploy further into parts of Lower and Middle Shabelle.
