Ethiopia Joins AMISOM Force

  Mogadishu-The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has today formally welcomed Ethiopian National Defense Forces into the peacekeeping mission. The AMISOM Force commander Lt. Gen. Silas Ntigurirwa received the forces at a ceremony held in Baidoa, in the Bay region, South Central Somalia. This is in effect of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2124-pasted last year that provided for increased capacity of the AMISOM force strength from 17, 731 to 22,126 uniformed personnel.  The Ethiopian troops take over the Bay region from the Ugandan and Burundian troops, permitting the latter to deploy further into parts of Lower and Middle Shabelle. The final match of Round 2 for the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers was played last weekend. The hype around the world has been low key compared to previous world cup qualifiers.
