South Sudan Hospitals Overwhelmed By War Victims

By Joseph Elunya &Agencies Health workers in South Sudan are reporting that they have been overwhelmed by the high number of patients. The health workers who are operating from Juba’s  Tomping base, which hosts over 17,000 displaced South Sudanese says they are facing tremendous challenges. According to the Hospital Commandant of Tomping Dr. Chanthy Phok, the 25 bed hospital is now host to 100 patients. “We have many women and children,” he said. “These need treatment for which the hospital was not equipped in the first place.” Notes Dr. Phok. UN Expresses Concern Over Gross Human Rights Violation in South Sudan

Juba-The United Nations is expressing deep concern over mounting evidence of serious human rights violations in the South Sudan conflict. The concerns stem from mounting evidence of gross violations of international human rights law that have occurred in South Sudan during the past 15 days. The mission notes that extra-judicial killings of civilians and captured soldiers have occurred in various parts of the country, as evidenced by the discovery of large numbers of bodies in Juba, as well as the Upper Nile and Jonglei state capitals of Malakal and Bor, respectively. Armed Youths Advance to South Sudan’s Jonglei State Capital

Juba-A large number of armed youth are reported to be advancing towards Jonglei the State capital of Bor. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan-UNMISS reports that the group has been moving across the state for some time now, with a possible intention of attacking other communities. “UNMISS has been tracking reports of the movement of armed youths for several days but cannot independently confirm the size or location of these groupings. Juba- Hundreds of civilians have taken shelter at the headquarters of United Nations Mission in South Sudan following overnight heavy gunfire in the capital Juba. President Salva Kiir in an address to the press this morning said there was an attempted coup by disgruntled soldiers that was quashed. Kiir said the Government troops have taken control of the situation and a night time curfew had been imposed in the capital Juba. Sources in Southern Sudan say there was an exchange of gunfire between rival members of the presidential guard.
