Adis-ababa-The warring parties in the South Sudan conflicts have agreed to a peace deal aimed at ending a five months old conflict.

The deal which was reached yesterday by South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and his former deputy turned foe Riek Machar calls for an immediate ceasefire and the formation of a transitional government ahead of the drafting of a new constitution and new elections.

The peace deal which was struck in Adisababa Ethiopia aims to end a conflict that has left thousands dead and more than one million people homeless.

An earlier ceasefire agreed in January collapsed within days, with both sides accusing each other of restarting the fighting.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said the agreement could mark a breakthrough for the future of South Sudan.
