FDLR Commander Killed in Congo

GOMA-A senior member of the rebel group Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda-FDLR has been killed during a battle with M23 rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Colonel Sangano Musuhuke alias Soki the second in command of the FDLR was shot dead Tuesday night during a battle between FDLR attempted to overrun an M23 command post.

The Spokesperson for the M23 Col Vianny Kazarama says that the late Sangano was killed when a group of FDLR forces backed by the government forces launched an attack on tuesday night at around 11 pm East African time on M23 position in Busanza, Rutshuru territory.

Kazarama says Soki and 7 of his men were reportedly killed by M23 rebels who repulsed the attack.

M23 say they seized weapons and ammunition from running FARDC.

FDLR are former Rwanda soldiers accused of committing genocide in Rwanda.

Herman Kabasha the civilian Spokesperson of the M23 rebels recently told the Continental Observer that the Kinshasha government should join hands with them in fighting foreign rebel groups that are based in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kabasha accused the FDLR a Rwandan rebel group and the Allied Democratic Forces-a Ugandan rebel group of killing the Congolese civilians.

Kabasha said M23 want to reach a peace agreement with the Kinshasha government so that peace can be achieved in eastern Congo.

However currently fighting is raging on the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo between the M23 and Congolese government troops.
