Forty five abductees have been released by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The group which has been released comprises of women and children who had been in captivity in the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“I wish to bring to your attention exciting confirmation that we have just received that on Sunday (August 10th, 2014), a group of 32 women and children were released by the Joseph Kony led Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in a place called Digba, in Democratic Republic of Congo”. Michael Mubangizi the Spokesperson of Invincible Children told the Continent Observer.
“This is in addition to the 13 women and children who came out on Saturday August 9th, 2014, which we reported on yesterday. This means that in a space of two days, 45 people have regained freedom from the LRA captivity. Their ages and years in captivity vary, with the youngest of the returnees being a one-week-old baby. These are from different countries including Uganda, Sudan, DRC and CAR”. Mubangizi explained to The Continent Observer.
According to Mubangizi this is the largest number of returnees since Invisible Children launched their program of encouraging defections in the rebel ranks in Central African Republic and DRC. Interestingly, these women and children came out in the same area where a group of LRA released 21 women and children on March 21, 2013.
