President Yoweri Museveni and Mrs Garang after holding talks in Uganda

Kampala-President Yoweri Museveni has held talks with Mrs. Rebecca Garang, the wife of the late Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) leader Gen John Garang on the ongoing crisis.
The two met on Thursday morning at President Yoweri Museveni’s country home in Rwakitura, South Western Uganda.

A press release issued by Uganda’s Statehouse says the President and Mrs Garang who is also a Senior Advisor to Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit discussed the security situation in South Sudan especially the recent events that occurred after the conflict and uprising in South Sudan.
Uganda has deployed troops in South Sudan following last month’s uprising.

Some members of Uganda’s parliament are however protesting the deployment on grounds that parliament was not consulted.

But the government maintains that the troops were deployed to help evacuate thousands of Ugandans who were trapped in South Sudan following the uprising.

Early this week, the Spokesperson of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fred Opolot told The Continent Observer that the Contingent of soldiers deployed in Juba will stay there as long as the Sudanese Government want them.
