Samuel Sitta Named Chairman Elect of Tanzania Constituent Assembly

sittaDODOMA- Tanzania Constituent Assembly(CA)  members have chosen former Speaker of the National Assembly to be its permanent Chair.

Sitta led the election with 487 votes, or 86.5 percent of total votes cast to Hashim Rungwe’s 69 votes, or 12 percent of the total.

In his acceptance speech, Sitta pledged to lead with high integrity   and to lead the constituent assembly to acquire   a “Quality Draft Constitution” which will be a pillar to tackling ‘inequality’ and delivering good governance in Tanzania.

The CA chairmanship marks a major test of Sitta’s leadership as he is rumoured to eye for Tanzania presidency in 2015.
