US Puts Uganda on Terror Alert

Suspected terrorist who is wanted in UgandaKampala-The United States Government is warning of an eminent ‘Westgate’ like terror attack in Kampala.

The warning issued yesterday by the US Embassy in Kampala warns of a likely occurrence of a terror attack similar to the one carried last month by the Alshabaab militants on an affluent shopping mall in neighboring Kenya.

“The US. Embassy continues to assess reports that a Westgate-style attack may soon occur in Kampala. Embassy officials are sharing all information with the Ugandan authorities. At this time, there is no further information on timing and/or location of this attack”. Reads the alert posted on the official US Embassy website.

The alert warns US Citizens who are in Uganda to avoid places that attract large crowds.

“We again take this opportunity to remind the community to exercise vigilance and to avoid public venues that attract large crowds”.

The alert urges U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Uganda to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program-STEP to receive latest security updates, and for help in case of emergency.

The Inspector General of Ugandan Police Force Gen. Kale Kayihura had issued a similar warning early this month and urged the Ugandan public to be on the lookout for an alleged terrorist Mueller alias Ahmed Khaled.

The whereabouts of the suspect, who is of Germany origin, is unknown.

Uganda suffered a terrorist attack in 2010 when Alshabaab militants killed more than 80 people who were watching a world cup match.
